285

I tried not to have expectations.
When you came, you had aged
as I predicted, anyway.
Then what was there to look at for the rest of the night
when I'd already seen this face
a thousand times in the seat across from me
whenever the phone in the kitchen rang

Now in the same seat where I'd watch you smile at my eyes,
your movements never skip and your voice
fills the room with words I'd forgotten,
but had always belonged to you
