It was about time I
ran into you. In the diner
cross town where neither of
us go. That's probably why I'd
just thought of you
a week before, when the commercials came on.
The green leaves had turned all different colors. I forgot
which one was you. I raked every day
but the snow melted them
anyway. I'd driven in a
circle to avoid the same route home. I'd begun to
notice all the children.
I'd learned something staring
at the sky. Time because we
could stand there letting winter
air prove to us we were breathing
